How Blonde Media is producing a new generation of creatives

How Blonde Media is producing a new generation of creatives.

On a sunny afternoon in Copenhagen we meet with Adam Holm, one of the founders of Blonde Media. Born out of Copenhagen, Blonde Media is an emerging production company ‘for the new generation – by the new generation’. Founded by three friends, Daniel, Phillip and Adam, the vision behind starting the business was to work for themselves and their friends. As Adam puts it, “Blonde Media creates value for money, showing the industry that there is a need for what Blonde does”.

Today, four years into the game, Blonde Media acts as a mentoring programme and network, and a platform and alternative for those outside society's norm who “deserve a chance” and who show that they truly want to learn and be part of the Blonde community. Through initial exposure working in the club and music industry, the brand started receiving a great deal of applications from eager talents who expressed a deep desire to join it. A selection of the most dedicated were taken under the wings of the founders and, slowly but surely, the company has grown into a 10 plus people team with an impressive portfolio.

‘It is about reaching out and asking for help. Having drive and a strong belief in yourself is all it takes.’

Inspired by other Nordic brands that have stayed true to their vision, the founders look to those who have found their niche. They regard Copenhagen a beautiful city that provides calm and quiet as well as an opportunity to recharge. Phillip has made a more detailed note on this: “Our city is, of course, in development, like most other major cities in Europe. Therefore, a lot of new modern buildings are being built at the moment, but they are not a reflection of us or the city. Although we are young and futuristic in our creative thoughts, we are still inspired by history. We like to mix the old with the new.” According to the founders, the architecture of the city has a lot of rich details; “you really notice the craftsmanship, framing, clean lines and textures – we produce films and visuals in the same way”.

Adam explains that he has seen a shift in people around him from closed to open, especially with generation Z. He meets a lot of like-minded people with a similar energy, people that are his age or younger, “people who want to carry each other, who grab you by the hand and that are really passionate about what they do.” “There is a shared mindset for wanting to spend money on supporting others that are part of the community,” he adds. As Phillip has put it: “All creative people in Denmark are blessed with a lot of opportunities to be able to cultivate their creativity full time.” Adam uses his own outfit as an example, bought from up and coming, local fashion houses and jewellers. “It is about reaching out and asking for help. Having drive and a strong belief in yourself is all it takes. People in Copenhagen know each other on a very personal level, you are there for one another,” Adam explains.

Phillip, Daniel and Adam each represent something different in terms of the company’s growth: aesthetics, optimisation and expansion. For the founders of Blonde Media, the short-term goal is to keep creating impressive visual productions, preferably outside of Denmark. Long term, the ambition is to start an academy — an education programme for recruiting and training new employees — and to expand globally. “Working with creative people outside Denmark opens up new creative perspectives, which we might not have experienced in our local environment. We are always looking to expand our network,” concludes Daniel.

Blonde Media helps create opportunities and meaning for young and sometimes vulnerable but passionate individuals, something they deservingly are very proud of.
